Looking Back and Looking Forward

By Andrew Simpson

So everything is pretty much done and dusted now. A GAMSAT of 72 and a GPA of 6.34 should really have put me in the box seat for a spot at Flinders .. but evidently my interview must have been approaching atrocious, as I was rejected before the main set of offers started coming out in December. I'm currently sitting in the UQ applicant pool with the minutest sliver of a chance of an offer for 2011. Realistically, though, I will be throwing my hat into the ring for a spot at UQ in 2012.

Acquainted with the Night

A tumultuous week, to be sure, what with (probably) moving offices and so forth. Hopefully tomorrow will bring some sense of certainty about next year, one way or the other.

Interview Day

By Andrew Simpson

Interview day has been and gone and the blackout has now been lifted, so I will recount my tale. I arrived in Adelaide on the Sunday afternoon (the 19th) and dined with the charming wolfhound. It was a very enjoyable evening, despite the cold weather. The next morning, after a restless night, I drove down to Flinders to case the joint in preparation for my afternoon interview and generally have a look around. Weather was miserable and Flinders is very big and on a hill, so mostly I just drove around looking at the various bits of the campus as well as the postgraduate village.

ANU Open Day .. Or Not

By Andrew Simpson

So the trip down to the ANU Open Day didn't go quite to plan. I managed to lose my phone somewhere between leaving the house and filling up the car at the petrol station, however I did not realise this until I stopped for lunch halfway to Canberra. Of course, everybody's contact details were in the phone so a lot of stress ensued as I frantically tried to figure out how/if I could get in contact with people. Things would have been a lot less stressful if I had remembered that all my contacts are synced to my GMail account, however rational thought was largely forgotten. Eventually I managed to get L2L's phone number and we had some dinner and saw a movie, however I was not able to get in contact with jeremy or allycat. It was lovely to meet L2L at least and I hope she was not completely freaked out by my state of mind :P In other news, two weeks to go until the Flinders interview! It seems to have come around awfully fast given how tedious the rest of the waiting has been. Looking forward to the end of the process but also very nervous about totally screwing things up.
